what does a product development company actually do?
A product development company turns an idea into a market-ready physical product. The work spans industrial design, engineering, rapid prototyping, manufacturing setup, branding, and go-to-market marketing. Most firms handle only one or two of those stages, which leaves the inventor to coordinate a chain of agencies, engineers, and factories, and to absorb every mistake that happens between them.
52 Launch handles all five. Design, prototyping, manufacturing, branding, and marketing sit in the same building in Framingham, Massachusetts, so a design flaw is caught before tooling, a packaging decision accounts for the real unit cost, and a marketing claim stays grounded in what the product actually does. Fewer handoffs mean fewer surprises, and a far better chance the product reaches a shelf at all.
You do not need to buy the whole process. Each service below stands on its own, with its own scope and its own deliverable, so you can start where your product actually is: a sketch, a prototype, or something already selling that needs to scale.
product design and CAD engineering.
Product design is where every launch begins. Our industrial designers take a concept through sketching, rendering, and CAD engineering, always building for manufacturability so the product you imagine is one a factory can actually make. Materials, tolerances, assembly, and unit cost are considered from the very first sketch, because a beautiful design that cannot be produced profitably is not a product. It is a picture.
What this includes
- ✓Concept sketching and design exploration
- ✓3D renderings you can show buyers and investors
- ✓CAD engineering built for manufacturability
- ✓Material, tolerance, and assembly decisions
- ✓Design reviewed against real unit-cost targets
Best for: Inventors with an idea or a sketch, and products that were never engineered for production.

rapid prototyping in our own studio.
Ideas need to be held. Our in-house prototyping studio turns CAD into physical prototypes fast: 3D prints, machined parts, and working models you can test, refine, and put in front of real users before committing to tooling. Every iteration answers a real question. Does it work, does it feel right, and will someone pay for it? Finding the flaw in a $40 print beats finding it in a $40,000 mold.
What this includes
- ✓3D printed and machined prototype parts
- ✓Working models for function and fit testing
- ✓Iteration cycles based on what testing reveals
- ✓Presentation-ready samples for buyer and licensing meetings
- ✓Revisions fed straight back into the CAD file
Best for: Anyone who needs proof the product works, or something real to show a retail buyer.

manufacturing, sourcing, and quality control.
We manage the leap from prototype to production: sourcing manufacturing partners, working through tooling and unit costs, running quality control, and getting sellable inventory to your door or your 3PL. This is the stage where first-time inventors most often get burned by minimum order quantities, tooling surprises, and quality drift, and it is exactly where an experienced partner earns their keep.
What this includes
- ✓Manufacturing partner sourcing and vetting
- ✓Tooling and unit-cost negotiation
- ✓Production sample review before a full run
- ✓Quality control through the production run
- ✓Freight, delivery, and 3PL coordination
Best for: Inventors with a proven prototype, and brands whose current production is not working.

brand identity and retail-ready packaging.
A great product still needs a name, a look, and packaging that sells it off the shelf. Our branding team builds identities, packaging, and messaging that make your product recognizable and retail ready. Because branding happens alongside design and manufacturing rather than after, your packaging fits your product, your price point, and the shelf it is fighting for.
What this includes
- ✓Naming and brand identity
- ✓Retail packaging design and dielines
- ✓Messaging and on-pack copy
- ✓Brand guidelines your team can apply
- ✓Packaging costed against your real unit economics
Best for: Products heading to shelf, and existing brands whose packaging is holding them back.

launch marketing, photo, and video.
Launch day is the starting line. With an in-house photo and video studio, we produce the content, campaigns, and channel strategy across e-commerce, retail, and social that turn a finished product into a growing business. Photography, launch videos, and retail sell-in materials all come from the same team that developed the product, so the story stays true to what it actually does.
What this includes
- ✓Product photography in our own studio
- ✓Launch and demo video production
- ✓Social and e-commerce content
- ✓Retail sell-in materials
- ✓Channel strategy across e-commerce, retail, and social
Best for: Products approaching launch, and sellers who need better content to grow.

the stages are only as good as the seams between them.
Most products do not fail because one stage was done badly. They fail in the handoffs, where a CAD file cannot be quoted, a prototype never gets built, a factory cuts a corner, a box does not sell, or nobody hears about the launch.
One accountable partner
Instead of managing a design firm, an engineer, a factory broker, and a marketing agency, you work with one team that owns the whole route to market.
Decisions made together
Unit cost informs the design, the design informs the packaging, and the packaging informs the campaign, because the people responsible share a building.
Proof, not promises
More than 35 consumer products have gone through this process and onto shelves customers actually buy from, across kitchen, toy, golf, apparel, and wellness.
product development services, answered.
what services does a product development company provide?
A full-service product development company covers every stage between an idea and a sale. At 52 Launch that means five services: product design and CAD engineering, rapid prototyping, manufacturing and sourcing, branding and packaging, and launch marketing with photo and video. Most firms handle only one or two of these, which leaves the inventor coordinating the rest.
can I use just one service instead of all five?
Yes. Each service stands on its own, so you can engage the complete process or only the piece you are missing. Many clients arrive with a working prototype and need manufacturing and marketing, or arrive with a selling product and need better packaging and content.
which service do I need first?
Almost everyone starts with a consultation. It costs nothing, and it exists so you do not buy a stage you do not need. If your idea has never been engineered, design comes first. If you already have a prototype, manufacturing is usually the bottleneck.
how much does each service cost?
Cost depends on your product’s complexity, materials, and how far along the idea is. Because the work runs stage by stage, you invest in one milestone at a time instead of one intimidating lump sum. A consultation maps the scope and budget before you commit to anything.
do I need a patent before starting?
No. You can begin at any stage. 52 Launch works alongside your patent attorney and maintains a network of patent attorney partners for inventors who do not have one yet. Confidentiality comes standard.
where does the work happen?
In one building. Design, prototyping, and a full photo and video production studio all sit at Saxonville Mills, 1602 Concord St, Framingham, MA 01701, about 30 minutes west of Boston. Studio visits are welcome, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm EST.
how many products have you launched?
More than 35 consumer products have gone from idea to market with 52 Launch, spanning kitchen, toy, golf, apparel, and wellness categories, including Eggmazing, HurtSkurt, Unshrinkit, LavaLunch, and Klock It Golf.
